Your skin is the largest and heaviest organ of your body, making up 15% of your body weight and covering 12-20 square feet.  The composition of the skin is amazingly simple: 70% water, 25% protein and less than 5% fat. Skin protects our blood, organs and bones from what’s outside, and it also packages our body neatly together.

Skin does more than serve as our anatomical casing. Skin also helps us with healing. When we touch skin in a loving way it reduces the level of stress chemicals in the blood and increases the level of the feel-good chemical oxytocin.  Massaging skin also stimulates the Vagus nerve, which runs up to the brain to improve the health of our whole body.

What Type is Your Skin?
Take a test: just answer Yes or No.

  1. Does your skin look dull or flake like a snow globe?
  2. Does your skin look like a bathroom floor with a shiny, slippery texture?
  3. Does your skin feel itchy and taut like sausage casing?
  4. Do you have pores that are enlarged like craters, are clogged or suffer from acne?
  5. Does your skin react to cosmetics containing alcohol, synthetics, fragrances, and artificial colours?
  6. Does your skin appear consistently moist, vibrant, and plumper than a squishy cantaloupe.
  7. Does your forehead, nose, or chin appear oilier than a fast-food kitchen, while the skin around your cheeks, eyes, and mouth is normal or dry?

If you answered yes to 1 or 3, you have DRY skin.
If you answered yes to 2 or 4, you have OILY skin.
If you answered yes to 5, you have SENSITIVE skin.
If you answered yes to 6, you have NORMAL skin.
If you answered yes to 7, you have COMBINATION skin.

How do I care for OILY skin?

  • Wash your face 2-3 times a day with a mild cleanser which does not contain additives. 
  • Do not scrub your skin. Keep it clean, but gently pat a mild cleanser on it, rinse and gently pat it dry.
  • Use an oil-free moisturizer and cosmetics.
  • Use a clay-based facial mask two or three times a week.
  • To remove dead cells on your skin, use products with alpha-hydroxy acids. This will give your skin a smoother look.
  • To refresh, clean and heal your skin, use a papaya mask. Just mash a small amount of papaya and apply it on your skin. Leave the mask on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse.
  • Steaming helps to loosen debris that may be embedded into the skin. Do this 2-3 times a week. Add chamomile, lavender oil or dried herbs such as rosemary, parsley or thyme to the water.
  • Drink enough water (typically 64 to 100 ounces of water per day, depending on activity levels) to hydrate your skin.
  • Diet should include lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and grain. Reduce fats and oils.
  • Reduce sun exposure. Too much heat stimulates the production of more oil.
  • A Vitamin B-complex supplement will sometimes help to balance oil production by your skin. Other vitamins like A, C, E and zinc also can help.

How do I care for SENSITIVE skin?

  • Use a perfume-free, soap-free cleanser. 
  • Moisturize your face with a light fragrance-free moisturizer, not a thick cream which will clog the pores.
  • Use a mild soap for your body, not an antibacterial, which will dry out the skin. Moisturize with a fragrance-free body lotion.
  • Use only silicone-based foundation and makeup without a lot of chemicals (less than 10).
  • Always apply at least 30 SPF sunscreen and wear wide-brimmed hats when outdoors.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothes. Choose cotton over synthetics where possible. Wash clothes in fragrance-free detergent.

How do I care for DRY skin?

  • Use only warm water. Don’t use hot or cold water. Shower only once a day and try to keep it short.
  • Moisturize your skin after every wash or shower.
  • Invest in a humidifier. Why? Your skin needs more than 30% humidity to stay properly moisturized. A room heated by a furnace can have as little as 10% moisture.
  • Don’t use drying soaps. Stick with a creamy moisturizing cleanser that contains glycerin or petrolatum, such as Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash for the body, or Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash for the face.
  • Drink enough water but don’t go overboard. Drinking more than daily requirements of water will not hydrate the skin.
  • If you have dry lips, use this exfoliation technique:

Step 1: Slather lips with petroleum jelly
Step 2: Use a soft toothbrush to massage in the jelly using a circular motion.
Step 3: Wipe off the excess petroleum jelly.

How do I care for  NORMAL skin?

  • Wash your face with warm water twice a day.
  • Use a gentle cleanser that is not irritating to your skin.
  • Use any moisturizers recommended for normal skin type. Always remember to use a sunblock with at least SPF15.
  • Facial masks are beneficial once per week. Use a hydrating, purifying and natural mask as needed.
  • Skin exfoliators once per week.
  • Drink a normal amount of water (at least eight 8-ounce glasses a day) and eat a healthy diet complete with fruits, vegetables, grains and proteins.

How do I care for COMBINATION skin?

Combination skin is skin that shows symptoms of both dry skin and oily skin. Combination skin can be a challenge to look after effectively, as oil-decreasing products may be over drying in certain places on the skin, while moisturizing products may cause excessive oiliness in other areas. To correctly balance a skincare regime, people with combination skin may need to use trial and error to find the right products to create a desired look.

First, you should identify which areas are dry and which are oily skin.
Second, care for the dry part of the skin using the guidelines provided for dry skin. The oily part of the skin should be cared for using the guidelines for oily skin.

Home remedies for wrinkles (the best substitute for Botox).

  1. Slice a lemon, put the slices into a jar and fill the jar with a glass of vodka. Leave the mixture in a refrigerator for 10 days. After that, filter it, add sour cream and an egg yolk and blend it all together with a whisk or fork until it is smooth. Use the resulting mixture for washing your face daily. Keep the mixture in the refrigerator.
  2. Lubricate wrinkles with the juice of a fresh cucumber.
  3. Wipe the skin with a decoction of parsley. To prepare the decoction, take a bunch of parsley, put it into a pot and add two glasses of water. Heat the water up but don’t boil it. Maintain the temperature below boiling for about 40 minutes. After that, leave it until it cools down, and then filter it.
  4. Wipe the skin with decoction of poppy petals. Take two tablespoons of petals and mix them with a cup of boiling water. Leave the mixture for 10 hours, and then filter.
  5. Use the facial masks containing the pulp and juice of sea buckthorn.
  6. Use the facial masks containing sour cream mixed with pomegranate juice.
  7. Other useful masks for wrinkles are the tomato pulp mask or pureed carrots mask.
  8. Clear the skin with almond milk. To make almond milk, soak 13-16 g of sweet almonds and 4-6 g bitter almonds in warm water, then remove the skin from the seeds and rub the seeds through a sieve. Add 100 g of honey and 1 liter of water. Keep the almond milk in the refrigerator. Use daily.

Morning Beauty Salad (for blossoming skin)

Soak three tablespoons of rolled oats in warm water in the evening and leave the mixture overnight. In the morning, add one grated apple to the oats, plus one tablespoon of honey, and 150 g of yogurt.  You can also add some walnuts or other nuts.

Have this salad every day, or at least three times a week, for the best result.  Your skin will look amazing!
