Here is a real story of a couple who did not give up and were also partly responsible for peaking my curiosity in the beginning about infertility. I am sure many of you can relate to this story and have been down the same road, so there is still plenty of hope for you.

Elena and Alexy: A story of hope and determination.

I guess I will start with Elena and her husband Alexy eight years ago, she was also an old friend of mine: we had studied at the same school. Elena came to see me very upset and really concerned that no matter how hard they tried, she just could not get pregnant, they had been trying for over 2 years. Elena was also worried that Alexy may stop loving her if she could not conceive. Alexy came from a family of 3 brothers and at the age of 34 he was the only brother who did not have children. Of course this was of great concern to him and Elena was starting to think she was to blame.

I knew from a professional point of view that this was certainly not the case. I told Elena that she was not to blame as there could be plenty of medical and non-medical reasons why she could not conceive. Also in 30 to 40% of all infertility cases it is on the man side, where the problems occur.

I asked Elena if she could come back and see me with Alexy, so I could have a talk with both of them just to see how I could help: she agreed. A week later Elena and Alexy both came to see me.
